A RESIDENT in Melksham has hit out at Wiltshire Council after they have failed to clear a public footpath that he claims is, “very dangerous and an accident waiting to happen.”
Bryan Sanford of Montague Place has contacted Wiltshire Council several times about an overgrown footpath that runs from Church Lane to Montague Place, but says he has seen no reponse and no action.
The public footpath has become impassable due to overgrown grass, weeds and bushes, meaning many residents are unable to use the footpath.
Bryan said, “It is an absolute disgrace. Wiltshire Council just do not listen and we have seen nothing done about it. I have contacted them many times over the years and I feel like we, the residents, keep getting fobbed off.
“There is even a sign saying ‘public footpath’ yet it is impossible to get down it and nor would anyone want to. It has become so overgrown now that the children on the street have to walk the long way round to school and for the older people who struggle to walk so far, it is a real nuisance. I would love to see it cleared so it can be used but I am not hopeful, not with this council.”
A Wiltshire Council spokesman said, “We are very sorry to hear that people have been having issues walking on this footpath due to overgrown greenery. We will ensure this matter is addressed with the owners of the hedges so the area can be cut back as soon as possible and maintained to a high standard from now on.”
