RESIDENTS are outraged after they had to spend hours picking up rubbish including glass from a play park that they describe as being “an accident waiting to happen.”
Richard Joy and his friend Andy Hinchcliffe spent three hours recently picking up rubbish from a play park situated just off Daisy Close and Primrose Drive that is designed for toddlers – despite already contacting Wiltshire Council previously about the problem.
Further to that, they say the play equipment has become dated, unsuitable and dangerous. The park was installed in the late 1990s and according to residents hasn’t been updated since.
Richard Joy said, “My children and I used to go to the park on a regular basis but it’s got so bad that it’s not a safe environment for anyone, especially children! Dog mess, broken play equipment and glass on the floor, I could go on.
“I have already contacted the council and had no joy in terms of getting the play equipment updated and the park looked at. The gate and recently the see-saw has disappeared. It’s not right; we shouldn’t have to spend hours getting the play equipment tidy enough for people to go in. I have arranged a leaflet drop campaign to get it updated and tidied.”
Wiltshire Council failed to respond by the time the Melksham News went to print.
