A MELKSHAM Rugby player has started a year-long hair growth challenge in memory of a teammate who died last December.
Joe Hargreaves will be completing the challenge in memory of former teammate Chris Bull and raising money for Dorothy House who cared for Chris before he died.
Joe started the challenge on Friday 17th October and will go a whole year without shaving or having his hair cut. He will be posting updates on a weekly basis and hopes to raise £2,000.
Joe said, “I decided to take on the challenge as I wanted to raise money for a fantastic cause and I know I am not able to run a marathon or take on anything too physically demanding.
“The rugby club has already raised an amazing amount of money in memory of Chris by completing a cycle challenge earlier this year and I wanted to do what I can to contribute.
“I am already known for being a bit silly so now I will have the looks to match – well even more than usual! I am expecting to get some funny looks as time goes on, but it will all be worth it as it is a great charity and Chris was a great man.
“I set the target at £2,000 which I hope is realistic over a year-long period. I held a fun day at the football club in August that raised over £1,000 for Dorothy House and I hope that as many people can support me with the hair growth challenge as they did with the fun day.
“My friends think it’s hilarious and my family support the challenge and my mum assures me she will still love me despite being concerned that I will look like a scruff bag!”
