An annual chess tournament was held at Melksham Scout HQ earlier this month, with 18 cubs from seven packs across the district.
The tournament ran throughout the day, with the cubs playing six games each as part of their Hobbies Activity badge.
The District Shield was won by 1st Hilperton ‘Harriers’ Cub Matthew Croft, with second place awarded to 1st Trowbridge ‘Ashante’ Cub Alex Hall. Third place went to Southwick & North Bradley Cub Finley Perry.
District Lead Volunteer Christine Broom, who organised the event, said,
“The day was buzzing and very competitive, and it was a very close-run competition. The winner and runners-up all received a medal, and all participants received a certificate.
“The day was once again a great success and enjoyed by everyone. It was assisted by many leaders, young leaders and last year’s winner Oliver Charles-Jones.”
