Melksham Seniors activity afternoons have got off to an excellent start and there are promises of even more new activities in the coming months; they are mainly run by volunteers and older people themselves.
Brian Warwick reported, “In addition to the happy sing along hosted by one of our community partners the ‘Sing ‘n Smile Club’ who have incredibly happy sessions for the young at heart, the forthcoming programmes will include a wide range of different fun activities arranged by our partners Age UK at each meeting.
“We shall also offer other activities including quiz sessions based on the likes of the TV programme ‘Pointless’, beetle drive, indoor mat bowling, skittles, craft sessions, such as card making, jewellery, painting, drawing, digital photography, keep dancing, Bingo, Whist, movement to music, occasional line dancing and any other activities members might suggest.
“We shall shortly announce separate venues and dates for forthcoming one to one and group teaching sessions on using smart phones, iPads and other tablets, even how to use e-mail facilities. Many of these sessions will eventually develop into regular events on different days as demand grows.
The next activity afternoon is on Monday 2nd March at 1.30pm at the Forest Community Centre, anybody requiring transport should arrange with Melksham TIC (01225 707424 ) for pick up by Melksham Community Transport.
Melksham Seniors activities are open to all over 55, no prior booking needed.
The next film matinee is on Monday afternoon 16th March at Melksham Assembly Rooms at 1.30 for 2.00pm. The film is the very enjoyable highly acclaimed ‘Song for Marion’. It is on par with other recent excellent older people films.
“We shall also be holding an afternoon political public meeting in April to which the General Election candidates known to date, have been invited.”
