WORLD renown comedy star and actor Lee Evans treated his Melksham fans to an extended performance, followed by a personal meet with the audience.
The comedian performed in a one-off show at Melksham Assembly Hall ahead of a UK-wide arena tour and following an extended show he then took the time to meet his fans.
Local woman Megan Walsingham was fortunate enough to meet the star. She said, “Lee Evans gave an outstanding performance making the audience laugh at almost every joke. He knew what worked with the audience and what didn’t and was just fantastic. He earned himself a well deserved standing ovation and could tell the audience loved it.
“He was the nicest celebrity I have ever met. He came out before the performance and after to greet fans and have pictures. I felt very privileged to meet such a genuine man. I think the fans appreciated this more than anything – in fact we couldn’t get him to stop talking! He even stayed behind to meet a family who couldn’t get tickets with one of the people in that family having cancer – the whole family was overwhelmed that they met Lee Evans.
“Also, he couldn’t be any more grateful to the staff for running the event and helping him. Such a great attribute to the Assembly Hall for getting him to appear.”
Another local man Sam Gillot said, “Wow what a night! I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was well worth waiting most of the morning to get a ticket a few weeks back. It was amazing that he took time to talk to fans afterwards; it really rounded off a great evening.”
Another fan Anthony Robinson took to Twitter to describe his evening. he said, “Just got back from Melksham to see Lee Evans. Not laughed like that in years and I even met him!!”
The event was organised by Melksham Town Council as part of their ambitious plans to bring top class live entertainment to Melksham Assembly Hall.
Deputy town clerk Miriam Zaccarelli said, “It was a truly great night. Everybody that was there seemed to enjoy themselves and he was on stage hours! I didn’t get away until very late, he really treated the people of Melksham. He was very good at thanking the people of Melksham for contributing to a great show and he took the time to chat to fans and have his picture taken at the end which was good to see.”
The comic performed in Melksham as part of preparations for his new Monsters show in August, which will see him tour the UK and Ireland in a massive arena tour including six straight dates at London’s O2 arena.
The Melksham show sold out in little more than an hour when they went on sale in March with hundreds of people queuing from the Assembly Hall down past Lloyds Bank.
Other comedians who have appeared at the Assembly Hall in recent months include Rich Hall, Josh Widdicombe, Shappi Khorsandi, Andy Parsons and Jon Richardson.
