Melksham Girls U13 Triumph in Westbury battle
Melksham U13 girls were ready to continue their fight for the league title on 15th March and got off to a very strong start, with Tilly Dunnery netting within the first three minutes.
Putting Phoebe Collyer up from to hold the ball up, and distribute to the wingers worked with her creating a corner that led to a second from Tilly.
The second half was a much closer affair with Westbury pressuring, but Melksham scored twice on the break with Abbie Wilding scoring from right wing with Tilly getting a strong asset, and Phoebe, now moved into midfield scoring the team’s fourth. The scoreline did not do justice to Westbury who pressured and battled all game.
Melksham Girls U13 progress in league cup
The Melksham U13s girls good fortune this season continued with a 4-1 win away to Chippenham in the cup.
The game was harder than the scoreline suggested, but Melksham had secured a 3-0 half-time scoreline with goals from Sarah Pearce, Cicely Stanley and Chloe Curtin. The second half was tighter with both teams scoring one and Chippenham keeping the Melksham girls under pressure.
Melksham remain top of the league, and progress to the semi-final in the cup away to Frome Youth.
Mixed fortunes in Cup Semi finals
Over the weekends of 22nd/23rd and 29th March, Melksham Town have had mixed success in their Cup Semi Finals.
The U11 Hurricanes went down 3-2 to Chippenham Eagles with the U14 Hurricanes again losing narrowly 4-3 in their Cup Semi Final to Bath Arsenal.
There were wins though for the U16 Tornadoes who beat AFC Corsham narrowly 4-3 to reach the Mid Wilts Cup Final where they will play Devizes Town. In the girls section the U16 girls ran out 6-0 winners over Derry Hill with goals from Annie Chalmers, Liz Bool, Beth Kelloway and Maddy Brown and will play Trowbridge Town who needed penalties to beat Bath City.
The U13s won a nail biting semi 3-2 after extra time against Frome Youth coming from 2-0 down after 20 minutes, and will meet Swindon Spitfires in the Final. A narrow loss for the U12 girls 2-0 against unbeaten league leaders Ashton Keynes. Melksham Town ladies made it to the final with a 4-1 win over Highworth after goals from Katherine Luther, Chloe Timbrell and Hannah Bishop.
