Melksham’s mayor, cllr Simon Crundell, will serve the town for another year with new deputy mayor, cllr Tom Price, following a vote by councillors at the Annual Town Meeting on Monday 17th May.
The pair are the youngest mayoral team in Melksham Town Council’s history.
Former deputy mayor, cllr Sue Mortimer, put herself forward to stand again, but did not sustain enough votes from councillors to continue in the role. She congratulated cllr Tom Price on his new position within the council.
Cllr Tom Price said, “I am immensely honoured to have the opportunity to represent my home town as deputy mayor. I feel an incredible sense of pride for Melksham and have a true love for the town. I grew up here, work here and have started a family here, I now look forward to giving something back to Melksham. Over the coming year I hope I will be able to do this grand title justice, whilst working alongside our mayor, councillor Simon Crundell.”
Melksham’s mayor, cllr Simon Crundell ,addressed members of the council and reflected over the past year, giving thanks to the community and recalling key events that have shown Melksham’s community spirit including the Queen’s Jubilee; the Christmas Lights switch-on; and the Coronation of King Charles III.
Cllr Crundell said, “This year has not been without significant challenges, as every member in this chamber is aware. But as from every winter comes spring, I have myself in full confidence that, as a team, we are working constructively on a path of recovery. I am extremely grateful to every councillor who has worked to be a part of this, and I hope that we can continue in this cooperative spirit to see all of our recommendations implemented in full.
“Community is the foundation upon which we build our town and the driving force behind everything that we do. Our shared commitment to community is what sets us apart and makes our town a truly special place to call home.
“I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to my esteemed colleagues on the council, our clerk Linda Roberts, our dedicated staff, and the selfless volunteers who work tirelessly to make Melksham a town that we can all be proud of. It is because of your unwavering commitment and hard work that we have achieved so much progress this year. We have made progress, but let us not rest on our laurels. There is much more to be done, and we must continue our efforts to build a better, more sustainable future for our town. We must work tirelessly to protect and preserve our natural environment, to create a community that is safe, welcoming, and prosperous for all.”
