PARENTS of the late Michelle Phillips, John and Sandra Phillips, have expressed their disappointment in seeing the memorial area for their daughter vandalised.
Michelle’s family placed seven memorial trees and two benches in her memory inside ‘Giles Wood’ with the permission of owners Freddie and Janet Giles, to commemorate Michelle who died in a car accident in 2004, aged 24.
Since then, John and Sandra have organised many fund raising activities in memory of their daughter, and their current total of £15,658 has been raised for Wiltshire Air Ambulance
The couple were devastated to hear of the destruction carried out in the memorial part of the wood.
In a section of Giles Wood known as ‘Michelle’s Corner’ a large fire was lit around midday, which was big enough to also burn the surrounding bushes, close to the memorial benches. One of the seven memorial trees was also broken and used as firewood. In nearby farmer’s fields at Bowerhill, vandals also destroyed large bales for silage and protective black bags have been cut and removed.
John Phillips said, “Please if anyone knows of anyone destroying this lovely wood, please let us know. When they are caught and handed to the police, there could be a reward from us.’
