WORK is gathering pace at Shurnhold Fields to create a new mini country park for Melksham.
Last month, work began to prepare a section of the fields, which are located on the site of the former George Ward School playing fields, for planting to create a wildflower meadow. A new notice board, benches, bins, picnic benches, and dog poo bag dispensers have also been installed in the space.
Friends of Shurnhold Fields, the group formed last year to support the ongoing development and maintenence of the new mini country park, have also spent time repairing fences and planting more trees.
The next job for Friends of Shurnhold Fields is to apply for planning permission for a small, modest 10 space car park and to continue work to improve access to the site.
