THE Assembly Hall hosted its first table top sale this month, the first in a series of new ‘homegrown’ events to be held at the venue.
Alongside the table top sale, which will be held on the first Tuesday of every month, the venue will also be hosting the ‘Melksham Record Fair’ on Saturday 16th July, a wedding fair in October; and there are plans for a weekly quiz.
Speaking to Melksham News at the table top sale last week – which had a number of stalls selling, toys, books, records, and bric-a-brac – Assembly Hall staff member, Bruce Burry, explained that the venue is planning to host more ‘homegrown’ events in a bid to make use of the hall all week round.
“We have plenty of tribute acts booked to perform at the weekend,” said Bruce, “so this is an attempt to make better use of the hall during the week.”
The launch of the new monthly table top sale comes ahead of discussions by Melksham Town Council, expected to be held this week, about the future use and possible rebrand of the Assembly Hall.
A meeting scheduled for Thursday 12th May, will see councillors discuss a report that proposes the venue play host to more community-focussed events, with a range of activities that more broadly reflects the demographic of the town. The report also suggests a rebrand for the Assembly Hall – with a new name and a ‘more fitting strapline’: ‘The Assembly – the Place where Melksham meets’.
The table top sale is held on the first Tuesday of every month, from 10am to 4pm. To book a table email: bruce.burry@melksham-tc.gov.uk; or call 01225 704187.
