A FUNDING boost of over £4,000 has been gifted to local charity, Melksham Free Dining, which organises free lunches and social activities for residents, following MP Michelle Donelan’s charity dinner that was held on Friday 25th August.
The fundraiser was held at the Melksham Assembly Hall and saw key members of the community and council join together to enjoy a fish and chip dinner, charity auction and raffle in aid of Melksham Free Dining. Guests also enjoyed entertainment from Melksham Free Dining singers.
The funds raised will go towards the charity opening on a second day during the week, enabling more residents to join the lunches and social activities.
MP Michelle Donelan said, “Melksham is known for its community spirit and that’s exactly what Melksham Free Dinning is all about – helping tackle loneliness and bringing people together. That’s why I organised a fundraising Fish and Chip dinner and auction to help them offer another weekly session.
“Thanks to the generosity of our local community and businesses we raised over a whopping £4,000 and had a lovely evening filled with laughter, smiles and singing from the Melksham Free Dinners themselves.”
Louisa Lewis from Melksham Free Dining said, “I didn’t imagine that so much money could be raised in one evening. Michelle and her team worked so hard. The auction and raffle prizes were outstanding and the amount of support from everyone who came to the event was overwhelming.
“I would like to thank Michelle and her team for organising this us as the chosen charity. I would like to thank Bruce and his Assembly Hall team who worked so hard behind the scenes plus our amazing Melksham Free Dining singers; this was their first live show and I couldn’t be prouder.
“Thank you to our very own volunteers for making the cakes for the evening, the Fisheries in Union Street for supplying such a huge quantity of fish and chips and a massive thank you for everyone who came to support the event.”
