The dozen or so volunteers of the Melksham Remembers project are gearing up to deliver an exhibition in Melksham Town Hall on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th November.
They have been assisted in the production of the exhibition with a welcome grant from the June Melksham Community Area Board towards the costs.
The volunteers are working on the stories that they have discovered about life in the Melksham Community Area during the First World War. The exhibition will include information on the many memorials in the area. It will tell stories of the work that everyone, including children, did to support the war effort. Visitors to the free exhibition will be able to find out the effect of rationing and food shortages and how the visit of King George V and Queen Mary in 1917 lifted everyone’s spirits.
The Melksham Remembers team would also like to ask that the couple who spoke to them in Melksham Library on 29th May about some letters, to get in touch with them. The team failed to get their contact details and would love to hear more from you.
If you have any information about the First World War please contact the project at hello@melksham remembers.org.uk
