THE Melksham Carnival will parade through the town one month earlier than normal this year on Saturday 29th June.
The move has been made due to security reasons, but organisers are hopeful that the June date will encourage more participants. Carnival press officer, Christine York, told Melksham News, “The committee member who provides security, road closures etc. couldn’t do July this year. As we couldn’t run the carnival without him, we thought it best to bring it forward rather than back. Hopefully it might encourage more schools and clubs to join in as it will be before the summer holidays.”
With a new date set for the carnival, the committee has begun work to make this year’s bigger and better than ever.
Committee chair, Becky Burchell said, “Last year’s carnival was one of the biggest yet and we would like to keep building on that but we need your help. Entries are open for the carnival procession so whether you are a group, business or individual, give it some thought and come and join the fun. It doesn’t have to be a float, do up a bike, a trolley or just walk.
“Every year the carnival is the biggest event in the Melksham town calendar. Thousands line the streets, which makes it a brilliant opportunity to promote your businesses or clubs.
“The entry form for the procession can be downloaded on the carnival website www.melksham carnival.co.uk. Please get them filled in and back to us as soon as you are able.
“We would also like to call out to any local business that would like to advertise in this year’s carnival programme or would like to sponsor the carnival with much-needed funds.
“It’s a great way to show your support for the town, as well as an ideal advertising opportunity. Melksham Carnival brings the whole town together and is loved by so many people. Support and funding from local businesses is the only way we can keep this tradition going.”
