MELKSHAM Town Council has approved plans to install new signs welcoming visitors to the community of Melksham.
At last week’s annual council meeting, the majority of councillors voted in favour of adopting signage displaying the slogan ‘Welcome to Melksham’, the town’s crest, and a green trim around the border of the sign.
The six new signs will be installed at the following locations: the A3102 from Bromham, A350 from Semington, B3107 from Bradford on Avon, A365 from Shaw, A350 from Chippenham, and the A365 from Devizes.
The new design was chosen by a working party of town councillors – however, not all councillors were a fan. “I hate them – it’s too 1950s. I am absolutely saddened that we haven’t been more exciting,” said cllr Adrienne Westbrook.
In response, cllr Caroline Andrewes said, “I love them – I like the fact that they are clean and clear.”
The town council will allow for £1,000 per sign for design and installation. Melksham Without Parish Council was consulted on the project, but will not be contributing towards the cost of the signs.
