Excitement and anticipation are the feelings of the members of Atworth Independent Church (the chapel by the clock) as they welcomed their new pastor and his wife.
Rodney Price, secretary of Atworth Independent Church reported, “Rev. Steven Whitaker and Mary moved from Bradford in Yorkshire to Atworth at the beginning of September to commence the pastorate at the chapel.
“The members had been looking during the past three years for someone to lead them following the resignation of the previous pastor who left through ill health. Steve has had pastoral experience in South Africa where he ministered at several churches. Since his return to the UK the Rev Whitaker has been looking for a position to continue to serve the Lord through the body of local believers. The two parties came together through an introduction scheme set up by the Fellowship of Independent Churches to which they both belong.
“A formal induction service has been arranged for Saturday 11th October at 2.30pm when the chapel is expected to be full of friends from the village, supporting churches and men who have preached at the chapel over the years, to share in this time of joy and celebration.
“The Rev Irving Steggles, formerly of Ladyfield Evangelical Church, Chippenham, and now serving in South Africa, will be the speaker. A fellowship tea at the village hall will follow.
“A warm, if cramped, welcome will await anyone who would like to join us. Contact and details of the activities of the church can be made through the chapel website – www.atworthindependentchurch.org.uk
