Two sculptors will be showing their work among the bright flower borders of The Courts Garden throughout September and into October.
Fiona Campbell and Ian Turnock have created an exhibition called ‘Form and Fascination’ which will be on display in the National Trust garden near Holt.
Selected sculptural works by Fiona and Ian, inspired by structures in nature, will sit side by side with peaceful water gardens and herbaceous borders, with organically shaped topiary.
The Courts Garden in Holt is well-known for its imaginative use of colour and planting, creating unexpected vistas that are the perfect backdrop to this autumn sculpture exhibition.
Contrasting with the garden design, Fiona Campbell uses instinctive building processes such as wrapping, weaving and layering to form large scale sculptural work – the effects of rust, corrosion and patination are often an integral part. Her structures are welded, soldered, woven and shaped, mainly using reclaimed and found materials, with minimum use of tools and equipment.
She said, “My mixed media sculptural works are often wrought as nest-like structures echoing universal primal forms in an apparent state of emergence, growth or metamorphosis.”
Ian Turnock creates large-scale contemporary sculptures inspired by nature, digitally cutting patterns into stainless steel, aluminium, copper, reclaimed steel, and plywood to produce free standing pieces for interior and exterior spaces.
“Drawings and photographs are the starting point from which I develop organic, abstract and figurative forms,” he said.
The exhibition runs from Saturday 9th September – Sunday 15th October and more information is available on www.nationaltrust. org.uk/the-courts-garden.
