ANOTHER year, another step up for Melksham Oak Community School’s sixth form, as students and staff last week celebrated more excellent A-level results.
Pupils in years 12 and 13 collected their results last Thursday, 18th August, as the school sees more students and more achieving top grades. 49% of all A-level results at the school were grade A* to B, and all leaving students who applied were accepted into university or other further education.
Deputy headteacher Owen Vince said, “We are once again hugely proud of the outstanding results obtained by our A-level students.
“Half of all grades achieved were at A*-B, which represents a significant year-on-year increase over the past few years in this key measure.
“All students have achieved the grades needed to take them on to their next chosen stage of education, employment or training, which is wonderful to see.
“These results confirm our progress towards becoming a great school for Melksham and its young people, but we will not rest on our laurels – we still have work to do and will focus our collective energy on improving again next year and beyond.”
This year’s success comes as, nationally, the number of A-level students achieving the highest grades has dropped, the gap between male and female students has shrunk, and those going to university has hit a record high of around 42% of 18-year-olds.
GCSE students will receive their results this Thursday 25th August.
