Are you a ‘regular’ at the Art House Cafe? If so, you will be familiar with the monthly exhibitions of art by local artists.
If you have never visited the cafe before, you may not know that the walls are covered in paintings of all styles and subjects; from land-and sea-scapes to floral art, abstract paintings, portraits of people and animals, still life and local scenes. There is something to suit all tastes and it is well worth a visit to appreciate the variety of work and the talent on display.
This month’s artists are:
Richard Bill – a well-known painter of local scenes, who taught art and design at George Ward School and later at Trowbridge College. His style follows a fairly traditional, realistic approach and uses the local area for interesting views and vistas.
Carolyn Hall – a part-time art student at Trowbridge College and later at Sue Burns’ Art School, she uses a variety of mediums but works mainly with oils, pastels and acrylics, developing her paintings from sketches or photographs. Her work is slightly abstracted, accentuating colour or blurring part of the image.
Ken Horroll – a member of Combe Down Art Group and now in his eighties, he studied at Bath Academy of Art and then worked in the printing industry. Having tried watercolour and oils, he now prefers acrylics and the subjects of his paintings range from rural and urban landscapes, architecture, portraits, animals and still life.
David Nutt – retired from career as an art director, his interest in painting has been lifelong. He works in oils and acrylics and his paintings are representational rather than abstract. He has a fondness for natural subjects including land – and sea-scapes, still life and river scenes, but is gradually moving towards portraiture.
Exhibition space for next year is nearly all booked, with only a few dates left. If you are a local artist who has not exhibited at the cafe before and would be interested in doing so, please call into the cafe and ask for a “new artist’ form, or contact Pattie Lockett on 01380 840506, 0793 6393881 or email pattie.lockett@ gmail.com. We would be delighted to hear from you.
