THE Tour de France is now over but wheels are still turning as a local man prepares to tackle a mammoth cycle across France.
Bowerhill’s Jason Webb will be cycling 745 miles in four days in August, to raise money for Wiltshire School of Gymnastics.
The gruelling challenge will see Jason cycle from Paris to the harbour city of Brest, then back to Paris, all in just 90 hours – less than four days with 6,500 other endurance riders.
Jason, who works at Cooper Avon Tires said, “I’m nervous about the challenge and my friends think I’m mad, but it only comes around every four years, so I’ve been waiting a while to do it.
“Thankfully my family are very tolerant of the amount of time I spend on my bike! I have been cycling seriously for about ten years now, and have done endurance events in the past. I will be doing this one with a couple of guys from my club, Chippenham Wheelers, who have never done anything like it.”
Avid cyclist Jason is raising money for the gymnastics school where his daughter Lydia Webb trains. “I ride about 60 to 100 miles per week for training, and will be hoping to do the first 400km of the ride without any sleep involved, except for stopping for refreshments. If I’m feeling ok I will be aiming to ride the full 600 in one hit, then think about sleeping in Brest before the return to Paris.
“There are no prizes for winning, it’s just a challenge to try and finish within the 90 hours cut off given to complete the ride!”
