SOME of Melksham’s community groups and organisations have been awarded major grants from the town council to support them in their work.
Major grants were awarded as part of the town council’s finance and administration meeting on Tuesday 9th May. The objective of Melksham Town Council’s grants’ scheme is to support and encourage a diverse range of community and youth activities, initiatives and events that meet the needs of the residents of Melksham.
Food & River festival’s grant was increased from £2,000 to £5,000; Citizens Advice Bureau was awarded £5,000; The Tourist Information Centre was awarded £4,000; and 4Youth (South West) was awarded £10,000.
The carnival team was not given a grant from the town council this year as the event is cancelled and will not be going ahead. Cllr Pat Aves said in the meeting that the carnival committee does hold other events throughout the year. However, cllr Saffi Rabey felt the grant funding was only specifically given for the carnival.
