AS the time approaches for Melksham Seniors chair, Brian Warwick, to step down from his role, he shares his thoughts on the events of the last 12 months.
Brian says, “Many, many thanks for all the kind comments and best wishes sent to me since I announced that I am standing down soon as the chair of Melksham Seniors.
“It has been a great honour to have been the chair and at the helm for seven years and with the help of a great team, achieved so much to raise the profile of Seniors and their important role in a loving community
“The last 12 months have been both hectic and continuously groundbreaking. Our Forum 55+ has for the last seven years gone from strength to strength in providing informative, entertaining and community services to a wide membership which is open to every person aged 55+ residing in the greater Melksham area. Our key ethos is to endeavour to improve the quality of life of older people.
“One of our greatest assets is our volunteers, those citizens who tirelessly give up their time and often their private personal time working to improve the quality of life for others at every occasion, by organising and hosting with absolute dedication so many events. We salute them all for without such dedication our organisation would not exist.
“Our weekly social and activity club on a Thursday morning at the Riverside has created a lovely friendly and active social event and it is great to see new people coming along. When the holiday season is over we have plans to extend those activities and also the numbers of speakers.
“We have been most surprised at the support for the Seniors’ suggestion to hosting a public debate that will allow the whole community to discuss whether there should be a closer coming together of the residents of Melksham by having one council that develops our services and environment for us all.
“We shall host that meeting prior to the autumn. Many thanks also to the area board for supporting the Age Friendly Community exciting projects, you will be hearing a great deal more about this in the coming months. Look forward to seeing many of you at our coming events.”
