MELKSHAM Without Parish Council has carried out work on two bus stops in Bowerhill to help protect users from the elements.
Bus stops on Halifax Road (at the junction with Beaufort Close) and Mitchell Drive have been upgraded to include side panels, providing more shelter. The parish council has also replaced broken glass in the shelter on Halifax Road, and has plans for a new bus shelter on Falcon Way.
The parish council’s clerk, Teresa Strange, reports, “Following a request from BRAG (Bowerhill Residents Action Group) members for some side panels to be added to the existing Wiltshire Council bus shelters in a couple of areas in Bowerhill, I am pleased to let you know that these have been installed.
“Residents – particularly those catching the bus regularly to the RUH in Bath – were struggling in the wind and rain as the shelters provided no side protection from the weather.
“The parish council has now arranged and paid for these side panels to be added, whilst still giving access to the shelter for those with pushchairs, wheelchairs etc.
“The parish council took the opportunity to replace the recently smashed glass in the one at Halifax Road too, and continue to regularly clean the shelters.
“Plans are progressing for a new shelter on Falcon Way, outside Kingfisher Drive, following the request from other Bowerhill residents.”
