VANDALS have forced Melksham Without Parish Council to purchase a new speed indicator device.
The parish council’s speed indicator device – which encourages drivers to slow down when driving over the speed limit – was damaged in May when on display at The Spa.
Contractors found the device damaged beyond use.
“It looks like it’s been hit with a heavy implement and bent upwards, the insides (circuit board and wires) are damaged and loose,” said the parish council’s clerk, Teresa Strange at the time.
It had only been in use for 10 weeks and was worth around £2,000. The incident was reported to the police. When in service, the parish council has one speed indicator device that moves around the parish every fortnight, in line with Wiltshire Council guidance.
