A MELKSHAM man has ‘braved the shave’ for Macmillan Cancer Support, two years after first pledging to lose all his hair for the charity.
Peter Mayes signed up to the charity challenge in mid-March 2020, but before he could have his head shaved, the country went into lockdown, forcing him to rethink his plans.
“When we went into lockdown I declared that I would not get my head shaved until Wiltshire Council (my employer) lifted all ‘Working from Home’ guidance,” explained Peter.
“Finally into 2022, as the pandemic eased, Wiltshire Council started to ease its guidance and we looked at ‘return to work’ opportunities. I, with my colleagues, decided to have our first face to face meet at County Hall on the morning of 25th March; exactly 2 years after the first lockdown. This seemed an appropriate date to get my head shaved. After two years, I ended up with quite a head of hair!”
So far, Peter has raised £360 for the cancer charity. “I’m thrilled that I surpassed my target of £300,” said Peter.
