A PILOT scheme that will see digital bus boards installed across Melksham and the surrounding villages is about to be rolled out, providing residents with real-time bus information.
This is a joint initiative between Melksham Without Parish Council and Melksham Town Council and will ensure there is the same facility in bus shelters in the town, to assist residents with ongoing and return journeys.
The test run will give bus users access to up-to-the-minute journey information and will start in Mitchell Drive, Bowerhill, and the Market Place in the town centre. Efforts to roll out the scheme will concentrate initially on the 271/272/273 route from Devizes, through Bowerhill and Melksham and then onto Bath via Whitley or Shaw.
Chair of Melksham Without Parish Council, cllr John Glover, said, “We have been keen to get this project off the ground for some time, and have been held up by the roll out of new displays elsewhere in Wiltshire by the local authority as we need to ensure that we are using the same system as them to be access the information digitally from the bus companies.
“Now we know what system they are using we are able to move forward with a couple of pilot schemes as a trial before rolling out across the parish and town in due course. We are pleased to be working on this joint project with the town council.”
The specific timings of when the pilot will start, are yet to be confirmed.
