MELKSHAM town council is giving away free trees for residents to plan in their gardens as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC).
The Queen’s Green Canopy is a tree planting initiative that was created to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. Following the death of Her Majesty the Queen, and the wishes of His Majesty the King, the QGC initiative will be extended to the end of March 2023 to give people the opportunity to plant trees in memoriam to honour Her Majesty.
Over a million trees were planted in Her Majesty’s name across the nation during the first planting season, October 2021 to March 2022. The extension of the QGC initiative will build on this legacy and serve as a lasting tribute to Her Majesty’s extraordinary service to her country and her people.
Along with individuals and organisations across the country, Melksham Town Council is inviting residents to take part by offering free saplings to be collected and planted by residents this autumn. If you signed up already at the Jubilee or ClimateFest you should have been sent a request for further information but if you haven’t, please contact the Town Hall.
To register and choose your free tree, please email townhall@melksham-tc.gov.uk or call 01225 704187 by 30 October 2022.
