A LOCAL man has written a poetry book for mental health to express his emotions and help empower others to do the same.
The book entitled From Darkness…To Light has been written by Jason Delaney, a former Melksham resident and George Ward School student.
“I have had quite a bit of losses and grief in my life,” says Jason. “My grandad died a few years ago now and when I went home, I wrote a poem called Irish Hero. I am rubbish about talking about my emotions; it helps if I write them down. I shared them with friends when I was brave enough; a lot of people liked them and they could resonate with them. I wrote more poems and it came to a stage where a lot of people said I should publish, but for a long time, it wasn’t something I thought about doing.
“It went crazy since writing the book. I am now an emerging poet on a charity site called Poetry for Mental Health. Poetry can be a form of therapy; it’s certainly a form of therapy for me to write it down.”
The poems are randomly ordered to evoke the sense of an emotional roller coaster. “One minute you could be laughing and the next crying,” says Jason. “I hope that people reading this will feel less isolated and alone.”
Radio Bath recently invited Jason to talk about his journey with poetry. “I have never really performed my poems live; maybe one day that’s something I might do,” he says.
A second poetry book is due to be published by Jason; he says it is another ‘complete emotional roller coaster’ continuing to explore live, love and mental health.
