MELKSHAM Police held a drop-in event in the Market Place on Thursday 15th February, to spotlight the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) week and hear from residents about issues that have been affecting them.
The drop-in gave residents a chance to meet with local Police Community Support Officers, and was one of three community engagement sessions the team had held during the week, with others happening in Trowbridge and Bradford-on-Avon.
Inspector Andy Lemon said, “Overall, this is about community engagement. It’s an opportunity for people to come and talk to the officers, for them to tell us what is going on, what they are worried about and what their concerns are so we can focus our resources in alignment with this.
“We have had good feedback from residents about the engagement sessions and these are going to be a regular event. We have held other engagement sessions around Melksham in the last few months including more with the supermarkets recently because of the rise in shop thefts and other bits and pieces with schools. It’s a real mixed bag; if we can get there, we will.”
The team said they also do community drop-ins that are advertised on social media beforehand. “This is a great chance for people to come and chat to us about any issues, or if they have anything to raise,” they say.
