MELKSHAM Neighbourhood Police Team (NPT) and the Neighbourhood Harm Reduction Team carried out a weapon sweep of King George V Park (KGV) last week.
The search, on Wednesday 15th May, was part of Op Sceptre, where police teams up and down the country work to raise awareness about knife crime and the dangers of carrying a knife.
Along with volunteers from the public who work alongside the Harm Reduction Team, officers carried out checks in the hedgerows, skate areas and rough land to ensure no weapons were left.
“We are pleased to say there was none,” explained sergeant Gemma Rutter. “Although, thankfully, we do not see many weapons-based incidents within Melksham, the NPT works hard to ensure we eradicate any possibility of them occurring. This sweep, as part of Op Spectre, has been carried out successfully in the King George V Park and I would like to thank the volunteers who supported us on our search.”
