SPEEDING in Bowerhill is due to be addressed by the Melksham Neighbourhood Policing Team, who have agreed to carry out visible patrols to catch speeding motorists.
The plan follows an increase in the number of complaints over recent months about speeding cars and motorbikes in Bowerhill particularly around the Pathfinder Place estate, where residents have complained about disruption and noise.
Recently, a meeting was held between members of Melksham Without Parish Council, Bowerhill Residents Action Group, Pathfinder Place Association, sergeant Rutter and PCSO Rolph, to discuss the issue.
Following the meeting, a statement on the Melksham Neighbourhood Police team’s Facebook page read, “Melksham Neighbour Team will be carrying out visible and slightly visible patrols to catch speeding motorists and deal appropriately. Working together with the Road Policing Unit and the DVLA, there will be dates of action in the upcoming weeks where we will be looking to deal with a whole array of motoring issues in the area.
“Looking to the future, we will be working alongside the parish council to shape longer term problem solutions such as speed bumps and road infrastructure.”
At the last area board meeting in June, cllr Nick Holder raised the issue of speeding in Bowerhill, in front of sergeant Catherine Roper, on behalf of residents, calling for the local police to address the issue.
Welcoming the plans to tackle speeding, cllr Nick Holder said, “The plans agreed will provide both a short-term and long-term deterrent and there will be an increased visible presence across the area. The police indicated there may be an increase in officers for Melksham and should that be the case, we are likely to see a permanent constable allocated to the Melksham Without parish, which would be a great help.
“In the medium term, we will be looking for volunteers to assist with starting up a Community Speed Watch scheme for Bowerhill.”
