HOT on the heels of Melksham’s first Repair Workshop, the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust have opened a ‘pop-up’ community event space in Melksham where they plan to hold a number of waste busting events.
The temporary space is at 17 High Street and will be open until mid-May, running the following events:
Saturday 26th April – 10.00am-1.00pm – Bike workshop – learn how to repair a puncture, maintain your bike and make a pedal powered smoothie with the help of cycling charity, Sustrans.
Wednesday 30th April – 10.00am-12.00noon – It’s Real Nappy Week so come and find out about washable, cloth nappies which will save you money as well as bags of waste.
Saturday 3rd May – 10.00am-1.00pm – Fun, free, environmentally friendly children’s activities
Saturday 10th May – 10.00am-1.00pm – Repair Workshop for electrical items and personal computers. Bring your item along for volunteer repairers to help you mend it.
Thursday 15th May – 6.00pm-8.00pm – Swish – Ladies’ clothes swap. Bring good quality, clean items that you no longer need or want and exchange them for items that others have brought. There will be a local seamstress on hand to give you advice on alterations.
Saturday 17th May – 10.00am-1.00pm – Give & Take. Bring along household items you no longer need or want that others could make use of and take something away that you like the look of.
The shop will also be open every Tuesday morning from 10.00am-1.00pm and every Thursday afternoon from 2.00pm-5.00pm (until 15th May) for general help and information about all aspects of reducing, reusing and recycling. In addition, there will be an After-School Club running every Thursday afternoon from 24th April to 15th May from 3.30-4.30pm, again offering fun and creative activities such as junk art.
All the events are free and open to all. The Repair Workshop which was held in March as part of Melksham Climate Friendly Group’s Equinox Day was well attended. More than 20 electrical, computing and clothing items were looked at by a willing and able team of five volunteer menders. 18 of those items were either, fixed, improved or the owner was signposted to further help and advice.
