THE Royal British Legion in Melksham will be launching this year’s Poppy Appeal at the end of the month, with changes in place due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.
Poppy Appeal organiser, Trevor Paterson, said that this year’s Poppy Appeal has had to adapt and be “flexible” to ensure the safety of everyone.
He told Melksham News, “We are hoping to have boxes of poppies and collection tins in various shops and stores around Melksham and the local area
“And hopefully, we might be able to have collections in the bigger stores – but I am awaiting clarification from RBL head office.
“Most important is that we observe all the rules and restrictions to prevent the spread of coronavirus – whilst still raising money for servicemen and women affected by past and current conflicts.”
To support this year’s Poppy Appeal, the Royal British Legion has created a number of ways for people to take part and show their support, without leaving their homes.
For a donation, the charity has produced an A4 poster of the iconic Remembrance Poppy that can be downloaded and printed to display at home – similar to the rainbow posters that appeared in front windows across the country to support the NHS during lockdown.
A full colour poster is available, or alternatively, for those who enjoy it, a colouring in version is available.
