A PLAQUE to honour popular Melksham man Malcolm ‘Sid’ Doel, was recently unveiled in the almshouses garden.
The plaque is on Sid’s favourite seat in the garden and has been installed following his death on Tuesday 29th August. He lived in the Melksham almshouses for over 10 years and was known to many people in the town.
“He was passionate about meeting his friends locally or in the gardens of the almshouses,” says secretary, Russell Lewis. “We installed the plaque with the permission of the Doel family, Sid was very happy residing in the almshouses. He was always ready to help everyone but at his pace. He was regarded as a true gentleman, loved by everybody and was one of a kind; he will be missed.”
