MELKSHAM Assembly Hall is set to screen ‘Coriolanus’, Shakespeare’s searing tragedy of political manipulation and revenge, on 30th January 2014 via a National Theatre live broadcast direct from London.
When an old adversary threatens Rome, the city calls once more on her hero and defender, Coriolanus. But he has enemies at home too. Famine threatens the city, the citizens’ hunger swells to an appetite for change, and on returning from the field Coriolanus must confront the march of political unrest and the voice of an angry people.
This hugely anticipated Donmar Warehouse production stars Tom Hiddleston, star of ‘The Deep Blue Sea’, ‘Thor’ and ‘War Horse, and BBC’s ‘The Hollow Crown’ and ‘Return to Cranford’, in the title role and Mark Gatiss, star of BBC’s ‘Sherlock’, the ‘League of Gentlemen’ and ‘Doctor Who’ as Menenius. Directed by the Donmar’s highly acclaimed artistic director Josie Rourke, tickets to see this production live actually sold out in 20 minutes!
The assembly hall has joined a select number of venues in the UK who are being allowed to broadcast this theatre production live to local audiences. The assembly hall’s Lorna Howard said, “It’s fantastic that people can come and see this fabulous production without having to incur all the hassle and expense of travelling to London and buying a ticket – assuming they could get hold of one!
“This is a further example of our objective to bring top quality entertainment to our assembly hall for our community to enjoy, and we’re delighted to be able to screen it.”
Tickets are priced at £10 each and are available from Melksham Assembly Hall, tel: 704187 or the tourist information centre on 707424.
