Forest and Sandridge School pupils will join thousands of children across Wiltshire in a special music project celebrating the end of lockdown.
For Wiltshire’s All Sing Together day, on 21st June at 2.15pm – which is also International Make Music Day, as well as the scheduled day for lifting Covid restrictions – schools across Wiltshire will sing the original song ‘Together’ in their playgrounds and school fields.
The event has been organised by Wiltshire Music Connect, who commissioned ‘Together’ – a song for Wiltshire Schools – during lockdown last year, which will be the song children sing together for the event.
Composers Tim Gilvin and Louise Jordan had been due to work in schools when the pandemic hit last year – so instead they were asked to write a song using words sent in by young people.
‘Together’ was written online, and a set of free resources for schools was produced, including backing track, lyrics, an improvisation section, and signing videos.
Now that schools are back, getting their singing confidence back, and starting to use the resources many of them will be celebrating by joining Wiltshire’s All Sing Together day, and the composers and singing leaders are busy visiting schools to help pupils learn the song – and even write their own lyrics.
Over 3,300 pupils will be singing, in 25 schools across the county – including 100 Forest and Sandridge pupils – and more schools are signing up every day.
Organisers say, “If you step outside or open your window at 2.15pm on June 21st you just might hear the song! Wiltshire Music Connect are asking people to let them know if you hear the song on the day by using #TogetherSongWiltshire on social media.”
