THE Forest Community Centre had to close its doors in March due to the government announcement to close all pubs, clubs, and centres due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
Now, almost 5 months on, they are pleased to say they are back open.
The centre report, “During the lockdown, the committee had to make a tough decision on the future of the community centre whether to close its doors for good due to finances or stick with it in the hope we can receive funding and carry on providing a centre to the community. Luckily and thanks to receiving a grant from Wiltshire Community Foundation, Foundation Coronavirus Response and Recovery Grants, we can re-open.
“The committee has seen a few changes over lockdown, Vic Oakman has stepped down from chair to take up the new role as president and Jack Oatley has now taken on the role as chair.”
Jack said, “A massive thank you has to go to Vic for his hard work and dedication to the centre over the years he’s been chair. Without Vic and his determination, the centre wouldn’t exist today and we couldn’t be prouder to have Vic as our president.
“I’m keen to take on the role as chair and carry the centre in a new up-to-date direction and continue the ongoing work. Our committee members do a fantastic job but we would like to see new individuals willing to join the committee to help with the running of the community centre.”
The club added, “The new opening days and times are Friday – 7pm – 11.30pm, Sunday – 11am – 4pm and Wednesday – 7pm – 10pm (bingo night).
“Bingo nights will commence from Wednesday 5th August and will be limited to 30-35 people in order to comply with Covid-19 safety regulations and social distancing requirements. No reservations can be made, and seats will be available on a first-come first-served basis only.
Thank you to all our customers and guests for their continued support, patience and understanding.”
