READ Easy Melksham recently celebrated the graduation of the first person to enrol on their scheme in 2015.
The group usually keeps confidential the details of its readers, but Helen wanted to share the news of her achievement. In presenting the awards, David Williams, management team leader, commended Helen and her coaches for their perseverance and hard work. Read Easy teaches on a one-to-one basis and this has proved to be very effective.
Helen read out a short speech which she had prepared. She thanked the two coaches (Janet and Pauline) who had helped her to learn, and described the huge difference that being able to read has made to her life. She gave examples. She can read things at work, in church, she has read a Bible passage out loud and is able to read the words of songs. She has joined a singing group and can read the words of songs there too. She is also now able to keep track of things such as hospital appointments. Helen said that she has become an altogether more confident person.
David Williams said, “Learning to read better immensely improves the lives of the many adults in the UK that Read Easy helps. If you would like to know more about volunteering as a coach, please contact Liz on 0844 472 2986. Alternatively, e-mail melksham@ readeasy.uk. org. To become a coach, no previous teaching experience is necessary as training is provided.”
