Read Easy Melksham is a local charity which helps adults who have difficulty with reading.
At the moment, there are a number of trained volunteer coaches available in Melksham who are ready to take on a reader.
Coaches meet their readers for two 30 minute one-to-one sessions each week. The reader works at their own pace through a step-by-step programme called Turning Pages in a venue such as the local library.
There are many reasons, from missed schooling to undiagnosed hearing difficulties, why an adult may not be able to read fluently. It is common for those with reading difficulties to feel anxious about learning, but it is very rare for an adult to be unable to learn to read. They only need a willingness to learn and to know that support is just one phone call away. It can be very difficult to take the first step and call to say “I want help to read”. But adults of all ages have enrolled with Read Easy and it is never too late to give it a go! Tuition is free and confidential.
The local Read Easy group is run entirely by volunteers who give their time to provide a free service. New readers are assigned a friendly coach who guides them through the course.
If you know someone who might be interested in improving their reading, please let them know that they can call in confidence. Phone Liz on 07468 852655 or email
