Rebel independent Wiltshire councillors, Terry Chivers and Jeff Osborn, have vowed to fight on after the ruling Conservative councillors on Wiltshire Council elected not to rescind the decision on members’ allowances, that will see Councillor Jane Scott and her cabinet receive increases of up to 37%.
The leader of the Liberal Democrat Group, Jon Hubbard, supported the Conservatives in defeating the motion.
Cllr Terry Chivers said, “If Jane Scott and the ruling Conservatives think this is going away they are wrong. The Conservatives have put up two fingers to the public and the petition that was recently presented. The councillors who voted for this will have to explain this to their electors. We have given them a way out and they haven’t taken it.”
Cllr Jeff Osborn said, “We will fight on. I and others will be meeting soon to decide our next move. One Conservative councillor in the debate said that I am a nuisance and I am proud of it. If Jane Scott thinks she has won the day she should watch this space.”
