MELKSHAM’S Conigre Mead Nature Reserve has received a special certificate for the support group’s continuing work to maintain the reserve.
The group reports, “Conigre Mead volunteers’ working group met in September, October and November to undertake much-needed conservation tasks following Covid 19 lockdown in March.
“Three new benches have been installed, which add to the opportunities to sit and observe the natural world. There was already a seat overlooking the river near the riverside entrance.
“For the last few years, Conigre Mead has entered the South West in Bloom competition organised by the Royal Horticultural Society, in the ‘Its Your Neighbourhood’ section.
“Last year in 2019, Conigre Mead was given the highest award – Outstanding!
“Due to the Coronavirus pandemic the South West In Bloom competition was not held this year, but on 4th November the RHS sent us a Certificate of Recognition for 2020 for our continuing work to maintain the reserve.
“At the South West in Bloom Melksham group AGM on 10th November Kathy Iles, Chair, thanked Conigre Mead volunteers for our management of the reserve.
“We hope that the people of Melksham will continue to visit the reserve in 2021 for walking and for rest and mindfulness – much needed during the pandemic.
“Conigre Mead volunteers meet on the third Saturday of the month from 10.00am-12.30pm to undertake conservation tasks.
“The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for 16th January 2021, depending on Covid-19 guidance.
