THE Pear Tree in Whitley is set to re-open under new owners just months after TV celebrity chef Marco Pierre White closed it.
Fears were raised recently that the pub – which is considered a vital community hub by local residents – would be lost as rumours of a housing development on the site spread. Those rumours led to an enquiry about the possibility of Melksham Without Parish Council taking it on as a community asset. But, that won’t be necessary as the Freehold Owners, Punch Taverns have assured locals of the pub’s future.
Punch Taverns, who own over 3,500 pubs across the UK, Partnership Development Manager Richard Pask said, “We are pleased to confirm that the pub will be re-opening in May this year and once again we hope it will become the hub of the community.
“We are already entering the final stages of recruitment so the re-opening as a pub is very much going ahead. We are speaking with interested parties regarding letting the Pear Tree in conjunction with undertaking a significant refurbishment.
“We want to bring the pub back to the local community and provide an outstanding experience .”
