Dorothy House Hospice Care is holding a series of ‘Light up a Life’ Services to remember loved ones at Christmas across Wiltshire from later this month.
The nine services will start with one at Bath Abbey at 6pm on 29th November, with other local services in Devizes, Chippenham, Trowbridge and Corsham in early December. Doors open from 5.30pm, entry is open to all and no tickets are required.
The short services will feature Christmas carols, readings, and an opportunity to remember loved ones and to light a candle in their memory.
The seasonal services of remembrance are part of the annual Dorothy House ‘Light up a Life’ appeal, which last year raised £45,000 to help the hospice provide essential palliative and end of life care, free of charge to local communities in Bath and North East Somerset, parts of Wiltshire and Somerset.
Dorothy House community fund-raiser, Yvonne Brunton, who helped organise the services said, “The Light up a Life services are a very special time for families and friends to join together and remember a loved one. Many people gain great encouragement from attending the services and view it as the start of their Christmas.”
Chief executive John Davies said, “It’s a privilege to mark 40 years of Dorothy House with these nine ‘Light Up A Life’ services across Somerset and Wiltshire. The services are a great opportunity for families to remember loved ones and reflect before the busy Christmas season begins.
“Since 1976, the hospice has cared for 45,000 patients and their families in the local community and this has been made possible by the generosity of many supporters and volunteers who have made Dorothy House the special place it is today.”
Services will be held in Bath (29th November), Shepton Mallet (30th Nov), Devizes and Warminster (1st December), Chippenham (5th Dec), Malmesbury (6th Dec), Trowbridge (7th Dec), Frome (8th Dec), and Corsham (9th Dec).
