MELKSHAM Town Council has agreed to offer a discounted rental rate for the Assembly Hall in an effort to support community groups getting up and running again.
“Getting the Assembly Hall used is our priority,” said cllr Adrienne Westbrook at last month’s town council asset management meeting.
The proposal to reduce the rental rate for the hall was made by cllr Jon Hubbard after he received feedback from a potential user that the hourly rate for the hall was too high.
“It’s worth considering that during this time – when the number of available facilities for people to hire are so restricted – that we look at what we are charging for the Assembly Hall,” he said. “If someone is using it – whether that’s at a normal or discounted rate – it is better than no rate at all.”
In agreement, cllr Adrienne Westbrook added, “We’re in a perilous situation and we do want to see the Assembly Hall being used.”
Councillors unanimously voted to back the rental reduction and agreed to authorise the manager of the Assembly Hall to rent the hall at the normal letting rate of the Town Hall, to facility groups and organisations meeting in a Covid-safe way.
