LOCAL resident, John Phillips, is hoping to find old photographs, paperwork, programmes or memorabilia of the aircrafts that were used in the old RAF hangers at Bowerhill Industrial Estate.
John Phillips took a flight over the area on Friday 21st September in a friend’s vintage ‘Auster’ aircraft to take some aerial photos of the progress being made at the old RAF Melksham hangar site.
The developer and the new occupier renting the eight hangars are both keen to mark the site in some way to show its previous use by the RAF.
John said, “Although having never been stationed at Melksham, I am particularly interested in its history so can I please make a plea to any of your readers for any old photographs of the aircraft that were used for ground instruction in these very same hangars.
“I have been unable to find any as yet, so if anyone has photos taken by anyone serving there or at one of the open days, I would be most grateful. Also required, any open day programmes, paperwork, memorabilia etc. I will carefully copy any material if allowed.”
If you can help John, you can contact him on 01380 871956 or via john. sandie723@yahoo.co.uk.
