WILTSHIRE Council has been heavily criticised for not dealing with rubbish overflowing from bins in Bowerhill.
Residents have written to Melksham News highlighting rubbish issues in different locations across Bowerhill and claim that Wiltshire Council need to “buck up their ideas.”
Photographs sent to Melksham News show rubbish piling up and overflowing at three different locations in Bowerhill with residents clearing the bins into extra bags after they say the council failed to act, despite being informed about the problem. Bowerhill resident Mandy Pantall was one of those to contact us. She said, “For several days I have been horrified and disgusted at the state of the rubbish bins around Bowerhill. Sadly though, this is a regular occurrence.
“As a responsible community we encourage children not to litter, and for dog owners to pick up their pets’ deposits; but what message does it send out to all when the council don’t seem able to keep the bins in a reasonable state?
“Two of these bins were in such a dreadful state they have now been tidied into extra bags by members of the local community! Well done and thank you to whoever did this, you beat us to it – but this should not be necessary. This mess not only creates an embarrassing, uncared for eyesore, it provides opportunity for pests, health hazards and sends a poor message to those who may be tempted not to clean up after themselves. Come on council, buck up your ideas. Residents of Bowerhill have struggled with poor grass cutting for months and just as this seems to improve, something else falls by the wayside; it’s so disappointing for those who do take pride in their home area.”
A Wiltshire Council spokesman said, “We are aware of a few bins in the Bowerhill area that are an issue. Our contractor is aware of these and is ensuring they are cleaned regularly.”
