RESIDENTS of George Ward Gardens are to form a residents’ association to help tackle ongoing issues in and around the estate.
Road safety, Broadband provision, safety of the play area, and ongoing maintenance of the area, which is currently managed by property developer, Persimmon Homes, are just some of the concerns that the new association will lobby to improve.
The decision to form the new association was made at a recent residents’ meeting, which was facilitated by town councillor Sue Brown and Wiltshire councillor Phil Alford.
“Over 40 people attended,” said cllr Brown, “and it became clear that residents wanted to form the association to do something about all these issues that they have about their local area.
“Both cllr Alford and I will support the new residents’ association. One area of concern is the maintenance of the area – Remus is due to take over management of this from Persimmon. We want reassurance that Remus is happy with what they are taking over and that there are no loose ends being left by Persimmon.”
Cllr Alford added, “There are a number of issues around the site, so we arranged the meeting to discuss these and there was a substantial turn out. We are now moving on to having some proper dialogue with Persimmon and Remus with a view to addressing the problems. I was also pleased to see such support for a residents’ association. Where these management fees exist, I think a residents’ association is a crucial step towards holding the management companies to account.”
