MELKSHAM’S hand-made Jubilee ‘postage stamp’ themed flags were given ‘royal approval’ before being allowed to fly in the Market Place.
Before proceeding with their plan to make flags replicating the 1952 postage stamp, featuring the Queen in her first year on the throne, and a replica of the current first class stamp featuring the Queen, the team of volunteers sought permission from Royal Mail.
Pictures of the designs had to be emailed to Royal Mail before the green light was given for them to go ahead.
Two other flag designs – a replica of the Platinum Jubilee’s logo, and one of the Queen’s throne – were also made by the volunteers.
“They took months to make,” said Terri Welch, one of the volunteers from the flag-making team, “because we had to apply to Royal Mail for permission. We are so proud of what we have done – and the feedback has been fantastic.
“Andy Marshall was our designer as always. Sharon Galloway, Sue Moffet, Liz McGrane and Lynda Bloomfield were our core team; but this year we were joined by, Jane Yates, Lynne Conway, Debbie Tetlow, Chrissy Morris and Wendy Iles joined us as often as they could.
A brilliant team, we are all delighted with the results. And it was also wonderful to see more volunteers join us to help make them.”
