The RSPCA Wiltshire Mid Branch is hosting an Animal Welfare Action day in Melksham on Wednesday 14th May at the Bowerhill Village Hall.
On the day, experts, including RSPCA inspectors, local vets and the animal behaviourist from Bath Cats and Dogs Home will be available to offer advice and guidance on pet welfare. Free cat and dog micro chipping will be available, along with free flea and worm treatments. Friendly advisors will be on hand from 8.30am to 5.00pm to offer professional assistance on improving the welfare of pets. This will include vouchers to help pay for the costs of neutering pet cats and a contribution to the cost of neutering dogs, subject to the discretion of branch officials.
Local vets, The Beeches and Bath Group, are supporting the day alongside representatives from the Dogs Trust and Cats Protection, Cats Action Trust, Wiltshire Council and Bath Cats and Dogs Home.
RSPCA branch chairman Barbara Myers said, “The day is about helping local people take simple, practical steps towards caring for their animals, protecting them from the unnecessary misery that fleas and worms, left unchecked, can cause. We also want to celebrate the pleasure that a well-cared for animal brings to its family.”
RSPCA research shows that owning a pet may help to keep you healthy, encourage regular exercise and of course pets are a great source of emotional support – as companions for the older generation and by improving children’s social skills and a sense of compassion for other living things.
Deborah Gogarty on behalf of the RSPCA Wiltshire Mid Branch said, “We are really looking forward to meeting as many people on the day as possible, with or without their pets, and urge anyone with an interest in animal welfare to come along.”
