WILTSHIRE Council has been blasted for their ‘jobsworth’ attitude by a resident after they initially refused to collect her garden waste bin.
Pat Goodship, a resident of Scotland Road was left outraged last week when council workers refused to collect her garden waste, citing that it had soil included – which Wiltshire Council refuses to collect as it is non-compostable.
However, the soil included in her garden waste bin was minimal with only a handful attached to weeds that she had dug up. Pat’s outrage led her to contact the Melksham News. We then contacted the council to enquire about their waste policies and 24 hours later the bin had been inspected again by Wiltshire Council and this time Pat was told the contents were fine!
An astonished Pat said, “I just can’t believe it! It just shows that if you stand up for what you believe in and fight when you know you’re right, then you will be rewarded. I was outraged when they didn’t collect it. What did they expect me to do, clean the weeds? I think there must have been at most 2% of soil in that bin and common sense has to take place. I can only imagine either a complete lack of training or the jobsworth attitude of the council caused this situation in the first place.
“I even went to the trouble of asking Hills Recycling about garden waste and they looked at my bins and told me I was right to complain before the council returned again and this time they did their job.”
